Parent Workshop Series Part 1: ABCs of IEPs

Free Workshop Series for Parents & Caregivers
Our four-part series begins with the ABCs of IEPs! Have you ever wondered what an Individual Education Plan (IEP) really means for your child? Join us for a clear, parent-friendly introduction to the ABCs of IEPs. This free one-hour workshop is designed to help families better understand the purpose, process, and practical impact of an IEP in Ontario schools. Opportunities for questions and discussion will also be provided.
Our hope is that these sessions will help you to get to know us, and, to learn how Goode Learning supports families.
Please note: These sessions will cover general information only; individual consultation or the sharing of information specific to a child will not be part of these workshops.
What you’ll learn:
✔️ What an IEP is — and what it isn’t
✔️ Why your child might have an IEP and who is entitled to one
✔️ The key components of an IEP: strengths and needs, accommodations, modifications, alternative expectations, services, transition plans, and parent consultation
✔️ The difference between accommodations, modifications, and alternative programs
✔️ How to advocate for your child — when and how you can request changes, what to do if you have concerns, and how the IEP is monitored
✔️ How an IEP supports your child’s success today, while shaping realistic and achievable goals for the future
Why attend?
This session will empower you with the knowledge and confidence to participate fully in the IEP process. You’ll leave with practical strategies, a better understanding of your child’s learning goals, and the tools to ask the right questions when working with your school team.
Who should attend?
Parents, guardians, and caregivers of students in Ontario schools who want to understand how IEPs work and how they support student learning and success.
